Lagging Behind

I feel like I owe an update. Not a whole lot of exciting things going on the past couple of weeks. I really need to start doing one new thing a week like I was trying to do all last summer and fall. There’s still a lot of things I want to see and do in this city! Obviously, I haven’t been doing absolutely nothing, so here’s a few things I’ve done since Memorial Day:

Went to Diadeloso in Central Park. For you non-Baylor people, Diadeloso means “Day of the Bear”. At Baylor, it’s a weekday in April when classes are not held and they have this big fair/festival with lots of fun activities. It was always a great day in the spring during school. They’ve started holding mini-Diadeloso’s all over the world, so last weekend was one here in NYC. Not many people showed up, but my friend, Erin, helps plan these things, so she was there. I met a few knew people and got re-acquainted with a couple of people I met at the Baylor breakfast I went to a couple of months ago. Baylor staff sent “Diadeloso in a Box” up here, so we had random Baylor things to play around with.

Went to “Experience India” with Joy. This was an event put on by National Geographic and Joy had free tickets. The evening started out with a documentary about India. It started out interesting, but then got pretty bad- I did not think it was made very well. After the film, they had a live performance of Indian music. This was really interesting. My favorite part was this man who had about 25 different “instruments”. They were really more like home-made instruments. Similar to cans filled with beans like you make with the kiddos at church or something. Then, he would switch sporadically between all 25 of his “instruments”. It was interesting to watch. It kind of reminded me of modern art-you wonder if it really takes any talent at all. After the presentation, they had a reception where we were served wine and Indian food- all free!! But, it was crazy in there with people rushing to get the food. We enjoyed a glass of wine, decided not to fight the crowds and went to a restaurant across the street to PJ Clarke’s for dinner and had yummy burgers and amazing mashed potatos!

My community group started back up on Tuesday. I am really glad that our group decided to stay together. We all really like our group and some of us were talking to our pastor on Sunday and he’s pretty excited were sticking together as well. We are going to finish our study on Luke this summer as well as have some fun evenings out. This next Tuesday we’re meeting in the park for a picnic and Opera in the Park!

Work has been really, really busy. Our auditors are in doing interim testing. They are demanding! We use EY, so I do approve of that! I’ve been at work late almost every night, though.

I’m sure I’m forgetting some things here—I can’t remember what I did last week! But, really, I’m sure it wasn’t very exciting!

Thanks for the update! It sounds to me like you've been doing some fun stuff-but why didn't you go eat Indian food after the India event? I'm trying to do the one new thing a week too-last week was bingo and hiking at wild basin preserve, this week was "Theology on Tap." Hmmm, maybe i should document new things in my blog too...
