It is hard not to start taking living here for granted or to succumb to the normal day-to-day life. Occasionally, I am reminded that I'm not in the middle of Texas anymore. Yesterday, as I sat at my desk, I heard a loud noise from outside several times. I wasn't sure what it was until about the 4th time I heard it and it dawned on me...it was the loud, low, booming sound of a cruise-ship horn. And I was reminded...I live in a place where cruise ships dock! I got excited as I remembered I am surrounded by water- living on an island of all things! And I had to twirl around in my chair to catch a glimpse of the tiny piece of the Hudson River that I can actually see from my desk.
Two weeks ago, I decided to switch-up my running routine. Instead of walking the 1/2 mile to Central Park to run, I headed west, towards the Hudson. I knew there was a path along much of the river and had always wondered if there was access to the path anywhere near where I live. Sure enough, it was only a 3 minute jog to the water and two blocks up was an entry to the boardwalk where people walk, run, rollerblade and bike. There also happens to be a nice park on the water right there where people sunbathe or read. I was so excited to find this new place so close by and have enjoyed running there a couple of other times. There's also a little cafe on the water in walking distance from where I live that I'll have to try out some day.
Last night, Friday, was Baylor at the Met's game. The alumni group met up for the game. I went with my friend, Erin, who is in my Bible Study. We had fun, and although the Mets won, it was the fastest most unexciting game ever!

I can't think of the name of that park you went to but Duke and I went there several times. It's so nice and beautiful there!
Tonya
Tonya-- you're probably thinking of Riverside Park?? That's further north than where I am. Down by me it's simply a boardwalk along the river, but right where I get on, there's a really small park-- grass only and a tiny pavillion. I don't know if it even has a name.
