I had my first interview yesterday. I met with 3 people...Controller, Ass't Controller, and HR Director. Amazingly the Controller is from Houston, her 2 sisters went to school at Baylor and now live in Dallas, she went to A&M, and I'd bet that she's a Christian. We had a lot in common! And what are the odds of me getting to work for a Christian in Manhattan-- slim to none! The company is a Media Advertising Firm. They are VERY laid back, have a fun atmosphere, yet are professionals. Their finance group seems like a great place to work as they really invest in people and develop them. The hours are pretty much 9-5, with little overtime during month-end.
But, I'm pretty sure I am under-qualified for the job and I think they thought so too. I am working through a head-hunter and spoke with them several times yesterday. The head-hunters seem to think that they really liked me, but are trying to find a different position that would suite me better either there or at one of their sister companies. We'll see, but I'm excited about the possibility!
My mom came in last night! We're headed off to do one of the red double-decker bus tours!

I Touched Russell Crowe's Motorcycle
It's true. I've touched it. Many times, in fact. Russell Crowe is producing/starring in a movie called "American Gangster". The production office is in my work building. He parks his motorcycle out front and every day I pass by it and every day I position myself so that I barely brush it...just so I can say I was that close to Russell Crowe's motorcycle. Pretty crazy, but it's the honest truth!
Tonight I saw Michelle Williams shopping in Macy's. If you don't know who that is, she was on Dawson's Creek (one of my old favs) and more recently received many award nominations for her role in "Broke Back Mountain". I found it odd that she was shopping in Macy's and questioned whether it was actually her. I got several good glimpses though and I'm pretty positive it was. Plus, she was pushing a very expensive Bugaboo stroller, so if it wasn't her, it was someone else pretty important!

From Scratch
The title of this blog is in reference to a book that the Pastor of my church wrote called "Starting a Church From Scratch" or something like that...it hits stores in January.
I quit my job yesterday. Wow! What a strange feeling. As of this coming Monday, I will officially be unemployed. I've been concerned and disappointed with a lot of things in the office and with the financial situation almost since Day 1. I really felt it was time to get out and move on. In a lot of ways I feel like I am having to start all over here because not only did I quit my job, but I won't be going to the church any longer. It's a little hard to swallow, but I am really excited to find a new job and explore some of the other churches in the city!
My friends Michelle and Melanie were here this past weekend and we did a TON of stuff! So, watch out for pictures from our great NYC tour coming soon!

San Genarro Festival, History Boys
Last Friday night, I went with a group down to the San Genarro Festival in Little Italy. It was so crowded-- you just had to push your way through the crowded tiny streets. But, they had awesome Italian food and dessert everywhere. A couple of people had recommended these little corn patties filled with mozerrella and fried...they were delicious! While a bunch of people waited in line for gelato, Joy and I decided to take a ride on the Ferris Wheel. It was really fun, but a never ending ride! The man operating the ride decided first to spend several minutes on his cell phone not paying attention to the ride at all. Then, he walks away from the controls and starts talking to someone down the rode. It was crazy and after a while we were really ready to get off! Our gelato friends had made their way over to the Ferris Wheel by that point and I kept yelling at my co-worker, Courtney, to walk over to the controls and hit the stop button and get us all off! It was really funny! After a little more time walking through the crowded streets, we went and saw the movie "Last Kiss". It was good, but kind of depressing or something. Okay, so I obviously need some lessons in night
pictures. They come out really dark or when I
use the nighttime setting, they become too blurry.
Anyway, this next picture is of our friends starting
to wonder if we're EVER going to come down! On
the left in all black is Clark who is one of my co-workers,
then Evan, who is the black guy. Next
to Evan is Rachel and in front of Rachel is
Courtney, who is also one of my co-workers.
Then, there's George and the blonde in the
jean jacket on the end is Kristin...George and
Kristin are also co-workers. Kristin just
started about a month ago and sits right next
to me...she is the sweetest and is becoming a
great friend!
This is Clark. All of us who work at The Journey
do not drink because we made a commitment
not to when we took the job. When someone
mentioned that cigar smoking wasn't in the
policy, we all decided it was okay and Clark
took full advantage of it!
On Tuesday night this week, I went to see a play on Broadway...History Boys. I have heard a ton about it since I moved here and it also won several Tony's this year under the Play category (not to be confused with Jersey Boys which swept in the muscial category). Anyway, History Boys is closing this Sunday and I wanted to see it before then so I bought myself a ticket and went. I really liked it! It's about a bunch of prep school kids who are trying to get into the best colleges in England. I'd like to get the book now and start reading it.
So, that's about it for this week. I have a busy weekend with a church Coffee House tomorrow night, SE and cleaning my apartment on Saturday, then Sunday I have church stuff then company staying with me just for one night. On Monday, I'm meeting up with an old high school acquaintance for dinner and I'm really looking forward to that!

A Taste of Nantucket
Last weekend I spent 48 hours on the island of Nantucket. It was everything I imagined it to be! It isn't the easiest place to get to, so my time was short, but I'll attempt to give you a small taste of my taste of Nantucket. I had a blast playing around with my new camera and I took SO many pictures, so bear with me!
I met my mom and her friend, DeAnn in Boston on Thursday night and we made our way to Nantucket on Friday. First we got on a bus to Hyannis, then a ferry to Nantucket. Here are some pictures from the port in Hyannis and what we saw as we left Hyannis (it was misting, so these are a little dark/fuzzy). By the way, if you haven't figured this out already, you can click on the pictures to see them full-size (this takes time, but a lot of them will look a lot better if you do)!

So, my mom was trying to point out the Kennedy
estate in Hyannis to me. She thought it was one of
these white houses you can see off in the distance
that are right on the shore. We never got confirmation
of that though.

We spent a lot of time just walking around the town-- cute streets lined with boutiques and other shops. Everything was SO expensive, so I didn't buy much. I do like looking in those types of stores, even if I know I won't be getting anything. I'll never buy one, but I can appreciate a $300 sweater. Here are some pics I took around

especially at this time of year! There were
hydrangeas everywhere!

One night I walked over to the Brant Point
lighthouse.
They have about 22 weddings a weekend on
Nantucket during this time of year. The sign
on the lighthouse was announcing a marriage.
You'll notice that most of the houses are gray
shingles. But, they actually start out as tan
shingles and the salty ocean air turns them from
tan to gray. This is a good example of a house
that is in the process of being re-shingled.
Look at the cute little "Surry"!
I should have walked to the other side of the
island to see this sunset over the water! Must
have been gorgeous!
On Saturday, we wanted to take a driving tour of the island. We hopped in this lady's suburban and she took us near and far pointing out the sights and giving us the history of Nantucket. Pictures from the tour:

Learning about the cranberry bogs was
interesting, but eating dark chocolate covered
cranberries was even better!

every seven seconds-- I was lucky to get it
in my picture!

Why? Because when the roses bloom, all that
lattice is covered in them!
We also took a Harbor Ice Cream Cruise. We
ate orange sherbert while seeing the island by boat.

Okay, look closely for this one. In the distance
right in the middle is a big white house. That's
the Gamble's house. As in Proctor & Gamble!

So, anyone with a vacation home knows you have to name your house. I enjoyed seeing all the names people picked for their Nantucket houses. Here are a few of my favorites:

fabric. They make EVERYTHING with it...
