US OPEN

I've been waiting to blog about my Boston trip until I get the energy to sort through all the pictures! Tonight I began the task only to realize I'd mixed my US Open pictures in with the Boston ones and completely forgotten to blog about my first trip to the Open. So, here goes!

It was a very fun night!! Michelle came back to NYC with me from Boston and we went on Tuesday night (the day after Labor Day) to the Open. The complex is right across from Shea Stadium, so I'd seen the outside of it when going to Mets games, but I had no clue how great it is on the inside. It is a huge complex of many tennis stadiums of varying sizes. Plus, several shops, tons of places to eat, lots of outdoor seating, etc...

We arrived in the middle of the Federer match that lasted over 3.5 hours. It was part of the Day ticket package and we had the night package. So, we had to wait for Federer to finish it off. As we waited, we got dinner at the food court and watched the big match on one of the many huge screens that surrounded us. After a while, they made the decision to move the Women's tournament for that night to a smaller stadium. We went in and watched for a bit - got to see Jelena Jankovic who went on to the finals where she lost to Serena Williams. She had on the cutest tennis dress!

We didn't stay to watch the women for long as the men's match was preparing to start in the largest stadium - Arthur Ashe Stadium. We made our way over there and got to see Andy Roddick beat some dude from Mexico. I was excited Roddick was on the ticket that night because I really wanted to see someone I knew of!

The US Open is known for being a celebrity-packed event, so of course I had hoped to see someone! I did not. Cameron Diaz was in a suite somewhere that night, but she must have been below us because I used my binoculars to scope out every suite in our view. They showed her on the JumboTron.

It was a fun night and I highly recommend a trip to the US Open for anyone!
